Five ways to show love to your family this February

It’s February and that means it’s time for Valentine’s Day, hearts and lots of LOVE! You might kiss and cuddle your kids and smooch your partner, but since you probably love your family sooooo very much, you might be wondering about how to show them some more love.

Showing love to your family can take many different forms and we think you’ll find that the more love you give, the more you receive.

This month, we are sharing five ways to show love to your family. Read on:

Self-care

We know, we know: Self-care isn’t easy, especially if you have little ones. But when you care of yourself, you are better able to take care of your family. You can’t pour from an empty cup, right? So, this month, try taking some time (it can be as little as five minutes) to do something just for yourself. Whatever it is that self-care means to you (a bath, painting your nails, having some tea, chatting with a friend) do it. You’ll be a better parent and more able to show your family love.

Hug it out

By showing each other physical affection, everyone will be happier! It’s true: Hugging releases oxytocin, the feel-good hormone. Start up a cuddle pile, hug your tween as they go off to school, start the day snuggling with your partner: Everyone will be feeling warm and fuzzy in no time.

Connect

It’s easy in our busy lives to forget to simply connect with our family. Everyone is running in a different direction. Slow down this month and find ways to connect with each other. Slip a love note into your child’s lunch. Make a date with your partner. Have a family game night. Enjoy the time!

Praise

For many people, hearing that they are loved and valued is important. Catch your kids doing something good and praise them. Tell your partner you appreciate his or her hard work. And don’t forget to give yourself some kudos too!

Celebrate

What better way to show love than to have a party or a little celebration? Valentine’s Day is a great day to have a party as a family. Dip strawberries in chocolate, plan a family movie night and eat on the good china (why not?). Find the extraordinary in the ordinary.
