And now it is time for your first visit with your midwife.

If this is your first pregnancy, you might be wondering, what do you ask your midwife at the first prenatal visit. It’s a typical concern and depending on your age, health and other circumstances, you will probably want to make yourself a list so you remember to ask all your questions and put your mind at ease.

Your midwife is a key member of your birth team and she is there to help you!

Here are questions to ask your midwife at your first prenatal. Read on:

Appointments and tests

The fact is, you will be seeing your midwife a lot during your pregnancy so now is the time to ask about making appointments. How often will you need to be seen? How do you make appointments and what do you do in case of an emergency or new concern?

Will you be having prenatal tests or ultrasounds?

All good things to know how and get sorted out.

Rules and regulations

If you haven’t been pregnant before, you might be wondering what to eat, if you can exercise and what to do about work or other activities. Now is the time to ask those questions, even if they are embarrassing or you think you know the answer.

Your midwife can help you sort it out – she’s heard it all!

Emergencies or warning signs

Most pregnancies are normal and even routine, but sometimes, things do happen. Now is the time to ask your midwife what warning signs or symptoms she ALWAYS wants to know about and when to call or go to the hospital.

It’s also a good idea to make sure you know how to call your midwife if there is an emergency.
