Four ways to practice mindfulness in your parenting this month

It’s the holiday season and that means hustle, bustle and very likely – short tempers and stress.

But it doesn’t have to be that way! This time of year can stretch the patience of even the most patient (and mindful) parent, we know. There are ways, however, to practice mindfulness with your family so everyone enjoys this magical time of year.

Here are four ways to practice mindfulness in your parenting this month. Read on:

Slow down

We sometimes feel like we have to accept every invitation and go to every event and make this memory and that memory. But you don’t! You really don’t!

We promise, your children will still have a magical holiday season if you slow down and say no to things that you don’t want to do. The upside is, you’ll have time for more mindfulness with your children.

Manage your emotions

If you feel stress and find your self getting angry or frustrated, that’s OK! But know that when you feel these feelings, it is time to step back and manage them. If you are stressed or unhappy, your kids will pick up on it.

Perfection isn’t the goal

We know you want to make the holidays perfect and magical. But if you put too much pressure on yourself to make everything perfect, you likely won’t be able to enjoy the moments with your family.

Let go of the need for perfection!

Press pause

If in the busyness of the season, you don’t pause and take a mental snapshot of all the beautiful and memorable moments, you likely won’t truly enjoy them.

So press pause. Look around. Listen. Be present. Don’t miss the memory as it’s happening.
